| Nick started making instruments when he was seventeen, around the early 1990s. A self taught luthier, Nick picked up his skills from books, a few tips from other luthiers, and a fair amount of trial and error. After completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, he began to hone his woodworking skills in a traditional boat building course, and working for an antique restoration company. Nick has also designed, constructed and installed kitchens and custom furniture, along with numerous woodworking projects. He has gained the expertise, patience and attention to detail required to make quality hand made musical instruments.
Nick had an exhibition of his instruments in 1998 as part of the Fremantle Festival, where he sold his first guitar.
“Wildwood Instruments” was established in 1999. The launch was held at the Acoustic Guitar Centre, North Perth.
He has been in several local Perth bands over the years, playing his own instruments on stage.
In 2004, Nick began selling his wide range of instruments at the music festivals throughout Western Australia. These included festivals at Fairbridge, Nannup, York and Bridgetown. With a great response (especially from the performers at the festivals) and often selling out of particular items, the Wildwood Instruments stall looks set to become one of the regular favourites!
Nick has also given talks at Primary Schools about... you guessed it! Musical Instruments.
Nick was interviewed in 2005 by Trad & Now magazine, Australia's national Folk mag! Read the article here.
Wildwood Instruments won Best Instrument Makers Stall for 2006 at the National Folk Festival.
